SUPER TRUCKS @ CALDER PARK
As I didn’t really know what to expect for the weekend after offering my services to look after the marshalling part, I decided to head up early on Friday arvo to sort it out. Well what a surprise I had to discover the tracks weren’t 100% ready so some work was needed to get that sorted. Pondy was busy doing “other important stuff” so it was left to us to get it happening. A bit of sorting on Friday night and some more on Saturday morning had the event ready to go a bit after the scheduled time.
There were 2 stages on Saturday which, thanks to the efforts of club members marshalling, ran without a hiccup. All in all it was a busy day for all involved with the competing teams giving it their all going faster and faster as they familiarised themselves with the tracks, providing us all with a great day of action packed driving.
Saturday night when the driving was done Pondy wondered if we could put together another stage using the logs, tyres and a berm. Well like any challenge put to the VAT crew, it was no problem and ended up being another great stage. After all the work was done it was time for some tucker and a few ales before heading off to bed.
Sunday we had 3 stages to manage, and just like Saturday, we met the challenge and had another great day marshalling as we watched some flat out action. The crowd arrived early on Sunday to watch and by lunchtime the numbers were heaps more than I had expected.
The weekend from the marshals point of view was a great success for the club and I would like to thank all those that helped out to make it great, probably great enough to be asked back for round 2 later on in the year.
As far as the competing club teams went, I’m sure Bidder’s and Rob had a blast all weekend finishing 2nd, while Joel and Bec/Jono, even after all their issues, enjoyed it ending up 9th.
Thanks again to all the helpers!!
