The day started early with a Macca’s breakfast, before I picked up Steve, then Justin. We met up with Jack & Steve in Pearcedale and headed off thru Koo Wee Rup on our way to Noojee. We locked in our hubs and deflated our tyres at Mt Matlock before heading towards Gaffneys Ck via the tracks, then along the main road to Knockwood where we turned off into Army Tk. The Golburn River was crossed followed by the steep climb up Holylands Tk, which took us up to the main Licola Rd and Mt Skene.
The hut was our lunch destination, but it would appear the track into it has been closed leaving us to have lunch in the picnic area. After a quick lunch, we headed back up to the lookout where a play in the snow including a snow-ball war was enjoyed by all. From the top we headed back towards Licola before turning off at Black River Tk and headed towards Mt Selma Rd. This part proved a bit tricky as the loggers have re-aligned some tracks, but with some skilful nav work we made it to our destination and reckon that area is worth a re-visit as some gnarly tracks were found on our travels.
With time flying by it was decided to follow the main road back until Beadmores Tk, were we turned off so as we could cross the river and wash the cars before
re-inflating the tyres and heading home. This is where Jack
discovered a wobble that was proved to be a worn out panhard rod bush, so after
some discussion a piece of the jacking plate was cut off and wedged into the
gap allowing Jack to drive home safely.
It was a big day with over 500kms travelled, with us setting out to see some snow while doing some fun tracks on the way. This was achieved with everyone having some fun too. Thanks to Justin, Steve, Jack, Steve & Lachlan for making it happen and to those that wanna see some snow, you’d better hurry up as it’s melting fast.
