Lisa & Justin’s Family
Holiday
It was a last minute decision to get away for a couple days. We had been up to Bright once before years ago, so we booked into a bed &breakfast place to stay at.It's called CANDLE BARK COTTAGE.We left Monday morning after finally fitting all of Cassidy's baby stuff into the surf(4WD).We stopped at Glenrowan, which is where Ned Kelly was bailed up in the Inn and captured and taken to Melbourne and hung. There is a few museums and touristy things to do there.
We arrived into Bright mid arvo, then had to follow a mud map to the B&B - drive towards Harrietville and turn left at trout farm and follow the river up the side of the mountain to B&B.We instantly fell in love with the place. The owners Daniel and Tracy also ran a 4x4 tours called 5 STAR ADVENTURE TOURS, so we hitched up with Daniel for a day drive around to see some amazing sites he was bragging about. He had 2 couples in his new turbo diesel GXL Landcruiser who had to be picked up, so we met him in Bright and headed up around the back of Mt Buffalo stopping at fantastic photo spots along the way - Paradise falls, just a short walk down a rocky track to this amazing stone and earth formation which is around 350 million years old, with the most water Daniel has ever seen pouring over the edge, in which you can walk behind and not get wet at all. Then onto Little Falls just down the track - a short walk to the falls, which were just as amazing. We then headed of to a secret spot for lunch, a rock ledge looking over Lake William Hovell and amazing mountainous country.
After a late lunch we headed back to Bright, which took a couple hours. The rain started so we went back to B&B to get fire going to warm us up.It rained all night and the next day, so after sleeping in and bacon and eggs, which were all supplied, we went into town for a look and dropped into the tobacco museum and antique shed. They had some interesting stuff there(and crap).
On the way back to B&B, we stopped at Harrietville. Not much there, but alot of interesting history with gold. The next day we walked down to the trout farm and caught a couple of fresh water salmon for that nights tea.Daniel had invited us to follow him on a afternoon tour up to Mt Buffalo, which we did.He took us to Eurobin Falls and Ladies Bath Falls, both were spectacular raging torrents and huge amounts of water pouring down from rock to rock(which were enormous)with blinding spray of water and mist.
After that we went up to the plateau and built Cassidy a snowman and went for a toboggan down the hill. After a hot cuppa and with the cloud closing in fast, we headed back dropping into the 94 year old Mt Buffalo chalet for a look.Rushing back to the cars to get out of the rain, we dropped into a vineyard in which Daniels wife works, picked up a couple of nice reds and went back to B&B to cook up fish on BBQ, which was perfect.
The next day we unfortunately had to pack up and go home to wet cold weather. If anyone is looking for a relaxing holiday, we highly recommend Bright and Candlebark Cottage. Daniel and Tracy make you feel right at home on their beautiful property, which is at the base of Mt Feathertop, and we highly recommend you take a tour with Daniel to all his secret spots in the Alpine High Country. We can't wait to go back!
